Giugliano: "I really wanted to win here"

The factory Ducati rider came very close to his first WorldSBK victory in Race 2 at Misano.

Only 1.290s separated Davide Giugliano from his maiden win WorldSBK today as the Aruba.it Racing – Ducati Superbike Team rider crossed the line in second place behind series leader – and race 2 winner – Jonathan Rea. After taking the lead on lap 7, the former STK1000 title winner did all he could to pull away but – also due to the lost FP1 session and the not ideal fitness condition – he could not counteract Rea’s charge to the top in the final stages of the encounter. Nevertheless, the 25 year old from Rome is confident ahead of the next round, scheduled for July 19th at Laguna Seca.

“We were so close to the podium in race 1 and then got there in race 2 but I’m a little disappointed because I wanted to win here” Giugliano admitted. “Unfortunately Friday’s session and the fact I couldn’t work effectively due to my physical condition didn’t help us. Today I was missing a little grip in both races, the rear tyre was sliding around and that made it difficult to ride as I wanted in the final laps. But all in all, I’m pleased because I was able to hold the lead for many laps in race 2 and, seeing that I only came back at Imola, this shows that the bike has developed and that we are working really well.”
